Charitable Fund Options
As an individual or an organization you can choose a fund type which determines at what level you will be involved in the distribution of funds, how you want the funds distributed, and whether you want to support an ongoing effort of the Construction Education Foundation or participate in a Special Project.
Fund Types
- Donor Advised Fund
This type of fund provides the greatest flexibility and the maximum tax benefits without the bother of administrative details. You can recommend grants to the qualified individuals or organizations of your choice at any time. These funds may be endowments or non-endowments depending on the desires of the donor.
- Legacy Fund
You may want to a portion of your contribution to support some function of the Foundation, create a scholarship for promising young students, or to fund some special need of the industry. But when you do so, you want to be sure that your wishes are honored and fulfilled. At CEF our business is to receive, administer and provide ongoing stewardship of such gifts. It is our goal to see that the donor’s intentions are honored and fulfilled.
- Scholarship Fund
The CEF scholarship program brings together students in need and individuals who care about education to enable more students to reach their educational goals. We believe that an investment in area students is an investment in our community and our industry .
- Discretionary Fund
Gifts may be made to a general fund and allocated to programs deemed important by the CEF Board of Directors.
Fund Classifications
- Endowment
An endowment is a permanent fund. Contributions to an endowment are irrevocable and become assets of the Construction Education Foundation. Endowments have two balances:
Principal – Endowment principal can never be invaded or transferred out to the Foundation. A portion of long-term earnings is posted to the Endowment Principal to preserve the endowment’s earning power against inflation.
Distributable – A portion of the long-term earnings is periodically posted to the endowment’s distributable balance which can be used for grant purposes.
- Non-endowment – All contributions to non-endowment funds are available for grant distributions. They do not have a permanent principal and contributions are irrevocable.
